We are pleased to present the SStep SSC100, the RF personal monitor tester built specifically for the periodic verification and calibration of RF personal exposure monitors, commonly known as electromagnetic field dosimeters. It is the first instrument of its kind on the market, purpose-designed to generate a controlled, calibrated field strength at the exact position of the device under test.
This lets operators step through every alarm threshold of the personal monitor and confirm that each one triggers correctly within tolerance — a routine check that was simply not possible with conventional test equipment, and one increasingly required to demonstrate compliance with occupational EMF safety regulations.
An RF personal monitor tester built for regulatory compliance
The SSC100 directly addresses the requirements of Directive 2013/35/EU on workers’ exposure to electromagnetic fields, implemented in Italy through D.Lgs 81/08 (Title VIII, Chapter IV), and the ICNIRP 2020 Guidelines. Every emission step respects the duty-cycle limits set by current regulations, so the verification procedure itself stays within safe exposure limits for both the operator and bystanders.
How it works
The instrument emits a continuous-wave RF signal at the calibration frequency (200MHz standard) through a radiating element integrated into the upper panel. The personal monitor under test sits in a dedicated mechanical holder that ensures repeatable distance and orientation relative to the radiating element.
The operator selects the active profile (EME Guard XS or AM40C) on the 7″ touch screen, then runs through the seven calibrated field strength steps — one at a time in Manual mode, or as a timed sequence in Auto mode. A unit reading outside tolerance reveals a dosimeter that has drifted and needs adjustment or service.
